This portrait of my Irish grandmother, Annie Walsh, was taken in Paris sometime before the Great War. c. 1913. She had a rich life in Paris, eventually becoming engaged to a wealthy French officer who showered her with jewelry. He would be killed in the first weeks of the war at the Marne.
