Team from the Achilles Fencing Club, Dawson Street Dublin, 1942. Nick and Harry Thuillier are 2nd and 3rd from left. Nick Thuillier represented Ireland at the 1948 Olympics in London. Harry followed in his brother’s footsteps at the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki, and again in 1960 in Rome. He had also been picked for the 1956 Olympics in Melbourne but had to decline. In those days, the athletes had to pay their own way, and Harry couldn’t afford it! Among other sporting achievements, Harry would go on to win ten consecutive individual foil championships — a record that still stands today.
