Chris Lamborne, Jimi Hendrix, Chris Murray, and Chris Grey at the Shoreham Hotel in Washington DC, March 10, 1968. The day before Chris Lamborne was to leave for Vietnam, the Jimi Hendrix Experience was playing the Washington Hilton Ballroom. Chris and his friends had got hold of a large papier-mâché rooster head, with the vague idea of gaining their hero Jimi’s attention during his performance. Murray hoisted his rooster headed pal onto the stage where he stumbled around, unable to see properly, before he was
dragged off by security. Later, Chris found out where the band was staying, and knocked on Jimi’s hotel room door: ‘Jimi, this is the rooster-head man’ and Jimi goes: ‘Far out, come on in’. It was a real buzz. Jimi was so gracious.
